You send messages in ISO Mate chat from any channel or direct message, reached through Chat in the sidebar General group. Type in the input at the bottom and press Enter to send, mention people with @, tag topics with #, and attach files by dragging them in. You can edit or delete your own messages, and start a private direct message with any teammate.
Send a message
- Open a channel or a direct message.
- Type your message in the input field at the bottom.
- Press Enter to send, or use Shift and Enter for a new line.
Mention people and tag topics
Type @ followed by a name to mention someone, then pick them from the suggestions so they are notified. Type # to add a tag, either an existing one or a new tag you create inline. Tags group related messages, and you can open a tag to see every message that uses it.
Attach files
Use the attach files control in the message input, or drag files onto the input to add them. Each file can be up to 10MB, and you can attach up to 10 files to one message. Images, PDFs, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents, plain text, CSV, Markdown, JSON, XML, and archives are all accepted. Web pages and scripts, such as HTML, JavaScript, and CSS files, are not, because a browser could execute them, so put those inside a ZIP archive to share them. Attachments send along with your message and can be downloaded by other members.
Edit or delete a message
Hover over one of your messages to reveal its actions. Choose edit to change the text, and the message shows an edited label afterward. Choose delete to remove it. Channel admins can delete any message in a channel.
Start a direct message
- Click New Message next to the Direct Messages section in the chat sidebar.
- Search for a user and select them.
- Click Start Conversation to open the direct message and begin chatting.
Direct messages are private to you and the other person. To work with channels instead, see Using Team Chat Channels.
