Using Team Chat Channels

Channels are the shared spaces in ISO Mate team chat, and you reach them from Chat in the sidebar General group. Create a public channel that anyone can join or a private channel that is invite only, then manage members, admins, and channel settings as needed. Public channels can be discovered and joined by anyone, while private channels stay limited to invited members.

Create a channel

  1. Open Chat from the sidebar General group.
  2. Click Create Channel next to the Channels section.
  3. Enter a Channel Name and an optional description.
  4. Choose the Channel Type: Public so anyone can join, or Private for invite only.
  5. Click Create Channel.

Discover and join public channels

  1. Click Browse Channels in the chat sidebar.
  2. Search for a channel by name or scan the available public channels.
  3. Click Join on the channel you want to enter.

Invite members to a channel

Open the channel and click Invite in the channel header. In the Invite Members dialog, search by name or email, select one or more users, then confirm to add them. This is how you grow a private channel, since it is not listed for discovery.

Manage members and admins

Open the Members panel from the channel header to see who is in the channel. An admin can promote a member to admin, remove admin rights, or remove a member from the channel. Admins can manage channel settings and membership, so grant the role carefully.

Channel settings

Admins open Channel Settings from the channel header to manage the channel.

  • General: edit the channel name and description, then save your changes.
  • Webhook: enable an inbound webhook so external services can post into the channel. See Setting Up Chat Webhooks.
  • Danger Zone: delete the channel, which permanently removes all of its messages.

Leave, mute, or star a channel

Use Leave Channel from the channel header to leave, and you can rejoin public channels at any time. From the chat sidebar you can also mute a channel so it stops sending notifications, or star it so it appears in the Starred section at the top for quick access.
