Target exposure is the level you expect a risk to reach once its treatment plan is complete. Set an optional target likelihood and impact on the risk form, and ISO Mate scores it the same way as inherent and residual exposure, so each risk shows where it started, where it sits today, and where it is heading.
What target exposure is
Alongside inherent exposure (before treatment) and residual exposure (today), target exposure captures your intended end state. It makes the goal of a treatment plan explicit and measurable, rather than leaving it implied.
Set a target
- Open the risk form and go to the Risk Assessment section.
- Under Target, set the target likelihood and target impact from 1 to 5.
- Save. ISO Mate computes the target score and level band the same way it does for inherent and residual exposure.
Target is optional. Leave both values unset for risks where a target is not yet defined, and the risk simply shows target not set. The bands are the same low, medium, high, and critical ones explained in Interpreting the 5×5 Risk Matrix.
See the trajectory
The risk view shows inherent, residual, and target side by side, so you can read the intended direction at a glance. Reports include a target level breakdown so leadership can see the posture the programme is working towards.
Compare on the heatmap
The heatmap has a layer toggle for inherent, residual, and target. Switch to the target layer to see the posture you are working towards, then compare it with your current residual posture to gauge how much treatment still has to deliver.
