Your email address is how you sign in, recover your account, and receive important messages, so ISO Mate treats changing it as a sensitive action. You confirm your current password, then verify the new address from a link sent to it. Until you verify, your original address stays active, so a typo never locks you out.

Where to change your email

  1. Open the profile menu (the person icon in the top toolbar) and go to your Profile.
  2. Update the email address field with your new address.
  3. Save your changes.

Email addresses must use standard characters, so an address built from look alike or non standard symbols is rejected.

Confirm your current password

Changing your email address requires you to confirm your current password. This proves the change is really you and not someone using an unattended session. Other profile details, such as your name, timezone, and language, save normally without a password prompt. Only the email change asks for it.

Your mobile number is the one exception. If two-factor authentication is on, that number receives your sign in codes, so it is shown as read only on your profile and changed from Security Settings with its own verification step instead. See Setting Up Two-Factor Authentication.

Accounts that sign in with Google

If you sign in with Google and have never set a password, you are asked to set one before you can change your email address. Once a password is in place, the change follows the same password confirmation step as every other account.

Verify your new address

The change does not take effect right away. ISO Mate sends a verification link to the new address, and the change only completes once you open that link. The link is valid for one hour and can be used once.

Until you verify the new address, your original email stays your active address. You keep signing in with it, and password reset messages continue to go there, so you are never locked out if the new address was entered by mistake.

Only the most recent link works

An account has at most one email change in progress at a time. Requesting another one replaces the first, and the earlier link stops working immediately. So if you mistyped an address, simply request the change again with the correct one: the link you no longer want cannot be used, even by somebody who received it.

Requesting a change to the same address twice behaves the same way, as a replacement rather than a duplicate. Only the newest link will work, which is worth knowing if you asked us to resend it.

A password change cancels a pending email change

If your account password changes while an email change is waiting to be verified, the pending change is cancelled and its link stops working. This applies whether you change your password in Security Settings or reset it after forgetting it.

The reasoning is that recovering your account should withdraw anything that was already in progress on it. If the pending change was yours and you still want it, request it again once your new password is set.

What happens to a linked Google account

If your Google account was linked under the address you are leaving behind, confirming the change unlinks it and signs you out of your other sessions. That link existed because you held that address, so it does not carry over to the new one. Sign in with your password, then link Google again from Security Settings if you want to keep using it.

This matters most when a work address is reassigned to somebody else after you leave an organization. Without it, whoever receives that address next could still reach your ISO Mate account through Google.

A Google account you deliberately linked under a different address is left alone, because it was never tied to the address that changed.

We notify your old address twice

When an email change is requested, ISO Mate sends a notification to your previous address. If you did not request the change, this alert gives you a chance to secure your account before anything takes effect. As a precaution, review your password and enable two-factor authentication.

A second message goes to that address once the change completes, telling it that it is no longer used for signing in or for password resets. The first alert arrives before the change takes effect, so this is the one that confirms it actually happened. If you receive it and did not make the change, contact support, because by that point the account no longer sends anything to your address.

If a link does not work

  • Expired link: if the verification link expires, start the email change again to receive a fresh link.
  • A newer change was requested: the link has been replaced. Use the most recent one, which was sent to the address you asked for last.
  • Cancelled by a password change: your password changed after the change was requested, which withdrew it. Request the change again.
  • Address taken: if another account has claimed the address while your change was pending, you are asked to choose a different address.
